Petra and Tom Sawyer's homestead is indeed a vibrant tapestry of talents and endeavors! From the lush variety of livestock and produce to the delicate artistry of stained glass, their homestead is a harmonious blend of hard work and creativity. Here’s a snapshot of their remarkable journey:

Tom Sawyer (The Farmer):

  • Manages a diverse herd of South Pole, Angus Cross, and Brahman cattle.

  • Sells his herd both live and as USDA-processed, packaged beef.

  • Rebuilds cars and farm equipment.

  • Takes care of raised bed gardens and an orchard brimming with apples, peaches, blueberries, Asian pears, muscadine, scuppernong, and Concord grapes.

  • AG & Art 2024 participants

Petra (The Artist):

  • Caned produce and fruit, transforming them into low-sugar jams, chutney, whole fruit preserves, and tomato sauce, which Tom sells.

  • Has 21 years of experience in creating and teaching traditional and mosaic-stained glass.

  • Has taught at renowned institutions like Spartanburg Art Museum School (SAMS) and Tryon Arts & Crafts (TAC), and from her home studio.

  • Serves as the President of the Laurens Artist's Coop.



Stained Glass Barn

Full Traditional, Mosaic and Fused Glass Studio offering classes, workshops and party events as well as commissioned and finished pieces. Check the Events Page for a schedule of classes, workshops and open studio/ shop days. Pickup for purchased pieces will be arranged after purchase.

Traditional and Mosaic-Stained Glass are offered in four - 4-hour sessions with a new class starting every month. $160
Have you always wanted to learn how stained glass is made? Has it been a long time since you picked up your glass cutter? If so, this is the perfect class for you! Techniques included in the class: design, pattern making, selection of glass, glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering. Tools are provided. Materials such as glass, solder, copper foil and came/framing are not included though some scrap glass is available at no cost. The classes are limited to 4 students per class. Smaller Class sizes ensure personalized attention.

Guided by a skilled instructor, guests have the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of fused glass, from selecting their materials to crafting intricate designs.

As the workshop unfolds, laughter and camaraderie fill the air as friends and family bond over their shared artistic endeavors.

By the end of the day, each guest will have made not only a handmade fused glass masterpiece but also cherished memories of a unique and engaging celebration.

The initial rate begins at $45-65 per person (depending on the project selected) – minimum age 6 years old, minimum group size 6 people. All tools and materials are included.
